We need to change the way, what ever country we live in the story is always the same. The politician’s will offer us the world, promise us a better life, but we all know the first thing will be higher taxes and more corruption. Living in Thailand they take it to the extreme, being a politician or Government employee means a life of greed and wealth, living above the law. It’s been proven in the US, Europe etc that you can not spend your way out of a bad economy. but how many Politician’s you see in jail? any other business if the CEO bankrupted the business or stole they would be imprisoned, why we do not demand the same for Politician’s and Government employee’s.
It’s our money we earn that they spend, tax us on everything we buy, tax our savings, give themselves bonuses and pay rises when they do a bad job. searching on the internet I see the President of Uruguay gave the following speech to the UN. He gives 90% of his salary back, runs a farm, drives an old VW, free education and healthcare for everyone, all farming organic.
“24 September 2013 – In his address to the United Nations General Assembly, the President of Uruguay today urged the international community to strengthen efforts to preserve the planet for future generations.
Speaking to world leaders gathered at the General Debate of the Assembly’s 68th session, President José Mujica said that “the world cries out for global rules that respect the achievements of science.”
He noted that “with talent and teamwork” man can green the deserts, farm the sea and devise methods to use salt water for farming, among other innovations.”
“A world with better humanity is possible, but maybe today the first priority is to save lives,” the President said.
In his speech, Mr. Mujica highlighted the power of the financial systems and the economic fallout which has the greatest impact on ordinary people.
He urged a return to simplicity, with lives founded on human relationships, love, friendship, adventure, solidarity and family, instead of ones with people shackled to the economy and the markets
Below are things I would change if I was a Politician.
- low tax on small business, high tax on corporations.
- normal wage for politicians.
- free education and health care.
- promote green farming and environment.
- sustainable living and job creation.
- fund women not wars.
- harsh penalties for criminals.
- affordable land and housing for everyone.
- abolish fast food do we really need it?
- make all banks cooperatives.
by simplifying our lives and how we live, we can make the world a better place for ourselves and future generations.
